Car rental Location or Airport Location
Check maps, tourist information or ask directions while at the car rental counter or rental location.
Its dangerous to read maps while driving, and can indicate you're not familiar with the area.

Watch your luggage at all times and keep your bags with you at all times.

Do not leave your luggage on the bus when you arrive at a Car-Rental-Choice rental location.

The Rental Car
Know your car's safety equipment, such as spare tire, seat belts, door locks, windshield wipers, hazard lights and spare tire, including jack equipment.

Make sure the gas tank is full.

Crime Prevention
Do not stop if another motorist tells you there is something wrong with your car or bumps you from behind. It can be a trick to commit a crime. Go to the nearest gas station or well lit public area and call the police.

Police lights are red and blue, do not stop for flashing white lights or other color lights.

When stopping for a stoplight, leave enough room in front of you to move out incase you must pull away quickly.

Keep your doors locked and your windows rolled up at all times, even when stopped.

Be aware of pedestrians near your car.

Always wear your seatbelt. Its the law and may save your life incase of an accident.

Keep valuables out of sight, in the trunk or glove compartment.

If you use an automated teller machine (ATM) do so at a well lit unobstructed place.

Do not count your money on the street.

Be a defensive driver, watch for the "other guy".

Car Emergencies
If you have an accident, call the police first.

Second, call your rental company at the location from which you rented your car.

If you have a breakdown, call the number on your rental agreement for breakdown service or call the rental place from which you rented your car.

If you have a cellular phone, in the United States call 911. The emergency number may be different in other countries, check before you leave the rental location.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Age Requirements for Renting a Car
You are required to be 25 years old or older in the United States. There are some locations that are an exception to the rule, where 21 is the age limit. If you have any doubts check the State's age limit before booking your car

Drivers in New York are eligible at 18 or older.

Some car rental companies check for high-risk drivers for insurance purposes.

Additional drivers can also be allowed on your rental agreement as long as they meet the age requirement and have a clean driving record. There may be an extra charge for an additional driver.

Car Rental Insurance Offered
Most rental companies offer optional car insurance for an additional daily charge. They are offered with provisions set out in the carrier policies. Generally, the coverage is liability insurance and/or collision insurance. Loss and/or damage insurance is also available. Some companies offer medical emergency insurance for sickness while renting your car.

Types and Sizes of Cars Offered
The type of cars offered may vary from location to location. However, most locations offer a range of sub-compact, compact, economy, mid-size, full-size and ranger, SUV (standard mid, and full), premium, luxury, vans, convertibles, minivans and station wagons. Make sure you are familiar with the type of vehicle you are renting before you drive

Accessory Options Available
There are many options available when you rent a car. Some of these may require 24-72 hours advanced notice. Some of these options vary from location to location.

The following is a list of possibilities: Disabled equipment (hand controls), Children's Car Seats, Tape/CD, Cellular Phones (two-way radio, voicemail, text and numeric paging, hands free speakerphone and accessories such as batteries and cigarette lighter adapters), Luggage Rack, Ski Rack, Trailer Hitch, Winter Driving Chains and No-Smoking Cars.
